Cash mostly only, not all only
Tuesday, October 11, 2016 by Elizabeth Pagano
The Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s recent switch to all-cash ticket vending machines garnered a bit of press over the weekend, but transportation officials want Austinites to know that it’s not a completely retro operation. In addition to the ability to purchase fares on the CapMetro app, credit and debit cardholders have a number of other options as well, according to a press release sent out on Monday. Riders without cash can purchase tickets at the Capital Metro online store, at the physical store (located at 209 West Ninth St.) and “at a wide variety of Randalls, HEB and Fiesta Markets.” The press release also explains that vending machines will continue to accept stored value TAP cards and “electronic change cards (given when cash is used to purchase tickets and change is left over after the transaction).” Plan accordingly.
