Barton Creek Greenbelt closed
Friday, June 3, 2016 by Elizabeth Pagano
Yesterday, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department made the call to close the Barton Creek Greenbelt under the threat of ongoing weather-related safety concerns after heavy rains, with more to come. A statement from the department explained that officials would be evaluating the closure of trails on a regular basis and, in the meantime, the best bet for up-to-date information is the department’s Twitter account. A statement from the city explained, “This decision was made due to trail conditions and high flowing water from upstream dam releases that are resulting in safety concerns for our patrons. When you see a barrier or a sign stating the greenbelt is closed, please obey the sign and DO NOT go onto the closed trails.” Earlier this week, a woman was killed tubing on Barton Creek.
