Back to school safety tips
Monday, August 14, 2017 by Nina Hernandez
As we head full steam back toward the school year, it’s important to take into account several Austin Independent School District travel safety tips for students. The district reminds drivers to refrain from passing school buses that are stopped with flashing red lights. (It’s a misdemeanor offense that’ll run you an expensive fine.) AISD asks that drivers slow down to 20 miles per hour when passing a stopped school bus. The district also has a tip sheet for students, including instructions to keep in the sight of the driver, arrive at the stop early and cross only in the front of the bus. Classes begin Aug. 21.
