Austin Interfaith gears up at meeting tonight
Wednesday, May 18, 2016 by Elizabeth Pagano
A waiver that would allow alcohol sales at the new South Congress Torchy’s Tacos has languished in limbo for months. The business, which has installed a bar and margarita machines in what seems to be anticipation of success, needs the waiver due to its close proximity to Fulmore Middle School. However, tomorrow evening might very vocally prevent that plan from going off without a hitch. Austin Interfaith is holding a meeting at 7:15 p.m. at Travis Heights Elementary School to address affordability, school programs and (yes) the waiver. Mayor Pro Tem Kathie Tovo, City Council Member Pio Renteria and AISD board trustees Paul Saldaña, Gina Hinojosa and Jayme Mathias will attend the meeting, along with more than 100 Austin Interfaith leaders. The waiver is on this Thursday’s Council agenda but is expected to be postponed.
