Austin firefighters get a thank you from Houston brethren
Friday, October 6, 2017 by Jack Craver
On Thursday, Marty Lancton, president of the Houston Professional Firefighters Association, addressed City Council to thank Austin firefighters for their help during Hurricane Harvey. “From the moment we asked for assistance, President Bob Nicks answered the call,” he said, referring to the president of the Austin Firefighters Association. Two dozen Austin firefighters went to Houston to help during and after the storm as part of a volunteer effort led by the International Association of Firefighters, the umbrella union of which both the Houston and Austin firefighters associations are members. In appreciation, Lancton presented a wood carving of his union’s seal “to the Austin Firefighters Association, the Austin Fire Department and the citizens of Austin for their unwavering support during this difficult time.”
