Austin Everybody Chill Out Day (observed)
Monday, April 17, 2017 by Elizabeth Pagano
Though many Austinites have traditionally celebrated chilling out two days later, Mayor Steve Adler has optimistically declared this Tuesday to be “Chill Out Day” in honor of the CodeNEXT map roll-out. The highly anticipated maps will translate the draft code rewrite, and most have been bracing themselves for a decidedly un-chill look through what might change (and not change). But in an op-ed written for the Austin American-Statesman, Adler urges everyone to take a deep breath and remember that this is just a draft, and the maps will change. “The map will have no absolute right answer. The best answer is the one that best brings us together. Let’s find that answer,” he writes, adding that the city has “almost a year” to come up with a final draft of the code (in another optimistic note).
