Austin earns environmental distinction
Thursday, August 10, 2017 by Nina Hernandez
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently named Austin one of its Top Green Power Partners. That means the city is one of the top 30 in the country in terms of buying renewable energy. Coming in at No. 5, Austin buys around 328 million kilowatt-hours to run its operations every year. Austin Energy’s Lucia Athens said, “This ranking demonstrates our commitment to supporting clean sources of electricity and is an important part of our efforts to fight climate change. Our continuing commitment since 2012 to power all of our City facilities with renewable power helps lead the way to a sustainable energy future, as well as meet the community-wide goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.”
