Austin Access Awards now accepting nominations
Friday, July 15, 2016 by Kayleigh Hughes
The Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities has announced that it is now accepting nominations for the 12th annual Austin Access Awards, which honor businesses and other places of public accommodation with physical presences in the city that excel at accessibility and maintain “welcoming attitudes toward customers with disabilities.” A panel of local accessibility experts will judge the entries, and the winners will be honored at the Aug. 18 City Council meeting, on the 26th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Past winners include Café Express, Walgreens, Whole Foods on North Lamar Boulevard, Maudie’s Triangle, Minh’s Cafe, KGSR Radio Austin and Smashburger at Mueller Airport. Criteria and nomination forms are available here. Businesses are encouraged to self-nominate, and nominations are due by 5 p.m. on July 22.
