Artists, live here?
Wednesday, November 21, 2018 by Chad Swiatecki
The Chestnut Neighborhood Revitalization Corp., a nonprofit affordable housing developer in Central East Austin, is asking the city’s artists, musicians and other creatives to take a survey intended to help steer the creation of a new group of housing units for low- and middle-income residents. The third building for the Chicon at 14th and Chicon streets is still in the pre-design phase and the developers are exploring offering small units between 400 and 500 square feet with shared common spaces, which they believe will more affordable for local creatives. The survey explores the earning and transit habits of artists, along with demographic and personal information to make sure that the next group of units can best help address the city’s affordability crisis. The Chicon was developed in partnership with Pegasus Planning and Development and the Big Red Dog engineering firm.
