Annie’s List makes picks

Monday, February 15, 2016 by Elizabeth Pagano

In case you missed it, last week Annie’s List endorsed Sally Hernandez for Travis County sheriff and Margaret Moore for Travis County district attorney. At the same time, the group released findings from a February public opinion survey of 400 likely primary voters by Myers Research & Strategic Services staff that appeared to back up the picks. According to the poll, Hernandez leads at 36 percent, with Don Rios at 13 percent, Todd Radford at 7 percent and John Sisson at 6 percent; meanwhile, 38 percent of those polled were undecided about the sheriff’s race. In the district attorney’s race, the poll shows Moore with 29 percent, leading opponent Gary Cobb with 16 percent and Rick Reed with 6 percent. According to the poll, a whopping 49 percent of those surveyed remained undecided, however. Annie’s List Executive Director Patsy Woods Martin spoke of the endorsements in a statement to the press, which read in part, “Annie’s List carefully reviewed the races and poll. The results are clear: Hernandez and Moore are in extremely strong positions leading into Early Vote. Further, given that Moore got in the race so late, the results are especially encouraging. The bottom line is both women are capable, principled, and fair. We are proud to support their campaigns.”
