AISD names new District 6 trustee

Tuesday, June 13, 2017 by Elizabeth Pagano

The Austin Independent School District Board of Trustees named Geronimo Rodriguez to fill the District 6 seat in a special-called meeting Monday night. Rodriguez, who is a chief advocacy officer and 13-year District 6 resident, said in his application for the position: The “greatest challenges facing public education are addressing the accelerated changes in our society, teaching children how to adopt and adapt as they transition from high school to college and career-ready efforts and addressing the inequities in our public finance system in the state of Texas.” The seat has been empty since former Trustee Paul Saldaña resigned in April. Rodriguez will be sworn in at the June 19 AISD board meeting, and will serve until the next general election in November 2018.
