AISD kicks off MLK weekend at the Millenium

The Austin Independent School District is hosting a party to celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, and everyone is invited. The community event will be emceed by singer/songwriter SaulPaul, who will also perform, and feature Olyvia Green as the keynote speaker. Green was the first African-American teacher at Pease Elementary School. The press release promises additional entertainment including “Thelma ‘Grandma Wisdom’ Williams, FLAVA Dance Company, Eastside Memorial Early College High School’s Eastside Singers, Dobie Middle School Chorus and Roadrunner Band, Gus Garcia YMLA’s drumline,” as well as light refreshments. To attend, head over to the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex, 1156 Hargrave St., Friday, Jan. 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
