Adler mixes football and barbecue for “friendly wager”
Friday, September 4, 2015 by Nora Ankrum
Being Austin’s mayor isn’t just about budgets this week. It’s also about Buttigiegs – in this case, one Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana. He and Mayor Steve Adler have made a “friendly wager” over Saturday night’s football game, according to a city of Austin press release. The Texas Longhorns will be traveling to South Bend to go up against Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish. The stakes are high, with Adler in attendance at the away game, where he will be wagering fine meats from none other than Franklin Barbecue. Buttigieg is countering with sweets from South Bend Chocolate Company and community-garden-sourced South Bend Blend Honey. The mayors will be meeting beforehand “to discuss their cities and the upcoming game.” Tensions will be high, no doubt.
