Accolades for cemeteries plan and Sparky park
Monday, October 31, 2016 by Nora Ankrum
Austin’s cemeteries are getting a lot of attention this week. Over the weekend, the Parks and Recreation Department’s Historic Cemeteries Master Plan received a merit award from Preservation Austin, according to an announcement from the city, and later this week, it will be granted a Project Planning Award by the American Planning Association. Not to be outdone by cemeteries, the park’s department’s rehabilitation of a 1930s electric substation into a community space for the Sparky Pocket Park also got a merit award from Preservation Austin at its Saturday awards celebration.
