Council moves to improve fire response times
Monday, March 28, 2016 by Nora Ankrum
City Council approved a resolution on consent last week directing the city manager to explore strategies for improving the Austin Fire Department’s response times. The move comes after a study – the result of a collaboration between the Fire Department and the Austin Firefighters Association – found disparities in response times among different areas of the city and identified the following five areas as needing new stations: the Travis Country area, the Loop 360 area, the Goodnight Ranch area, the Moore’s Crossing area and the Canyon Creek area. The resolution also directs the manager to look into technology upgrades that might improve emergency responders’ control over traffic signals.
