Thursday, February 25, 2016 by Nora Ankrum
Travis County voters this week have tripled last week’s number of early ballots cast for the March 1 primary election. When polls closed last Friday, 17,607 voters had cast early ballots. More than twice that number – 37,201 – have cast ballots so far this week. Overall, as of Wednesday evening, a total of 54,808 people (8.53 percent of registered voters in the county) had participated in early voting (which began Tuesday, Feb. 16). Of that total, 36,206 voters were Democrats and 18,602 were Republicans. Two days of early voting remain, with polls closing at 7 p.m. on Friday. See the Travis County website for voting locations and other information.
