Tejano Democrats to launch early voting initiative, announce endorsements
Tuesday, February 16, 2016 by Nora Ankrum
The Austin Tejano Democrats are kicking off early voting – which begins today, for the March 1 joint primary election – by unveiling a new initiative called #LatinosVoteEarly. The goal, according to an announcement from the organization, is to increase voter turnout among Central Texas Latinos through the use of social media. The group will launch the initiative at 9 a.m. at Fiesta Mart Central, 3909 N. I-35, which is one of Travis County’s several early voting locations. They will be joined by former state Sen. Gonzalo Barrientos, who will be announcing the group’s endorsements for statewide races. Afterward, “a delegation of current and past Latino elected officials will vote early,” according to the group’s announcement about the event. Members of the public are welcome to join in the fun.
