TipSheet: Travis County Commissioners

Monday, August 25, 2014 by Mark Richardson

The Travis County Commissioners Court meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

In the interest of space, we’ve decided not to post the entire agenda here. The County Clerk’s office hosts a copy at its website.

Items of interest for Commissioners Court include:

23. CONSIDER AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION ON A PROJECT PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH THE U.S. CORPS OF ENGINEERS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE LOWER COLORADO RIVER BASIN PHASE I, TEXAS ONION CREEK WATERSHED, TIMBER CREEK.

Commissioners will take action on the Project Partnership Agreement with U.S. Corps of Engineers for Onion Creek homes. It’s a cost share project with the federal government and will allow the county to be reimbursed for purchasing properties in the floodplain.

25. CONSIDER AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION ON ITEMS RELATED TO ENVIRONMENTAL DOCUMENTS FOR THE OFFICE OF HEALTHY HOMES LEAD HAZARD CONTROL GRANT AND LEAD HAZARD REDUCTION DEMONSTRATION GRANT PROVIDED TO THE CITY OF AUSTIN BY HUD:
A. REQUEST TO APPROVE THE TIER ONE ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW;
B. REQUEST TO AUTHORIZE THE COUNTY JUDGE TO SIGN SUBSEQUENT DOCUMENTS FOR THE TIER ONE FOR SUBMISSION TO HUD IF NO COMMENTS ARE RECEIVED DURING THE CITY OF AUSTIN’S PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD; AND
C. REQUEST TO DELEGATE SIGNATURE AUTHORITY TO THE TRAVIS COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AND VETERANS SERVICE COUNTY EXECUTIVE TO SIGN TIER 2, SITE SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENTAL CLEARANCES FOR EACH HOUSE ASSISTED OUTSIDE THE CITY OF AUSTIN LIMITS BUT WITHIN TRAVIS COUNTY AND THE PROGRAM’S EXPANDED SERVICE AREA.

Travis County Commissioners will take action on lead reduction grants to City of Austin from the Housing and Urban Development department. The program is having trouble finding qualifying people to take part in the program and has been seeking homes outside of the city’s jurisdiction and in the county in order to implement the grant.

27. RECEIVE AND DISCUSS THE TRAVIS COUNTY HEALTHCARE DISTRICT D/B/A CENTRAL HEALTH PROPOSED BUDGET FOR FISCAL YEAR 2015 AND THE ASSOCIATED TAX RATE.

Travis County Commissioners  will hear a presentation on and discuss the Central Health proposed budget and associated tax rate for FY 2015.

28. CONSIDER AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO APPOINT CAPITAL AREA PRIVATE DEFENDER SERVICES TO OPERATE TRAVIS COUNTY’S MANAGED ASSIGNED COUNSEL PROGRAM.

Commissioners will consider appointing the Capital Area Private Defender Services to operate Travis County’s Assigned Counsel Program. The program will replace the county’s current court-appointed lawyer program.
