TipSheet: Travis County, 9.8.15

Tuesday, September 8, 2015 by Caleb Pritchard

The Travis County Commissioners Court meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday. In the interest of space, we’ve decided not to post the entire agenda here. The County Clerk’s office hosts a copy at its website.

3. Consider and take appropriate action regarding the issuance of a Mass Gathering Permit for the Euphoria Music & Camping Festival to be held on April 7–11, 2016, at Carson Creek Ranch, 9507 Sherman Road. (Judge Eckhardt & Commissioner Gómez)

Monitor’s Take: This could be the lone highlight of a post-holiday agenda that will be largely approved on consent. It’s first official vote on a mass gathering permit application since the commissioners revised the procedure in response to one property owners complaints about noise at Carson Creek Ranch. Two weeks ago, Commissioner Gerald Daugherty indicated he would vote against the permit since the applicants are requesting a variance on the baseline curfew for amplified music. There are rumblings that a lawsuit could be launched if the permit is denied.

14. Consider and take appropriate action on expanding and improving capacity for Civil and Family Courts (CFCC), including the public information program leading to the November election on funding the CFCC. (This item may be taken into Executive Session under the Consultation with Attorney Exception.) (Judge Eckhardt)

Monitor’s Take: This apparent housecleaning item on the proposed Civil and Family Courts Complex bond item comes with no attached backup material and will, in all likelihood, end up being discussed behind closed doors. Last week, the commissioners approved the material that staff will use during public information sessions scheduled throughout the fall.
