Howdy! Sorry for the slightly late start, but your #atxcouncil is up and running for what promises to be a very short meeting. May 11, 2017 02:24 PM
Approved on consent: Items 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13. May 11, 2017 02:25 PM
Item 3
Postponed: Item 3 (AFD budget item – ppd to 5/18), Items 23 & 24 ( ppd to 6/8) May 11, 2017 02:27 PM
Item 8
Item 8 has been withdrawn for corrections. May 11, 2017 02:28 PM
Item 9
Now talking about Item 9, which would form a student commission. All the speakers support the move, now back to the dais. May 11, 2017 02:28 PM
.@D5Kitchen now questioning why the student body isn’t appointing members to the committee. @kathietovo explains it’s like other commissions May 11, 2017 02:34 PM
Non-shocking news: @GregCasar notes that his own university administration would never have appointed him to a commission (he was a critic) May 11, 2017 02:40 PM
Right now, by the way #atxcouncil is debating a proposed amendment by @JimmyFlannigan. It’s here: May 11, 2017 02:41 PM
Environmental Commission holds off on water quality requirements (again) – (via @SommerBrugal ) May 11, 2017 02:50 PM
Flannigan is now saying he believes commission should be geographic, as all are (followed by a long list of exceptions.) May 11, 2017 02:53 PM
.@LesliePoolATX points out that the resolution can pass and then it can be worked out during ordinance process (this is just a resolution.) May 11, 2017 02:54 PM
.@kathietovo thinks there should be some direction in the resolution. @JimmyFlannigan thinks its too prescriptive. That’s the current debate May 11, 2017 02:55 PM
.@JimmyFlannigan iwithdraws amendment, voting symbolic “no” but does support the commission, confident ppl know there are details to resolve May 11, 2017 02:58 PM
.@kathietovo says that geographic diversity isn’t as important in this case, it’s more about repping the university. May 11, 2017 02:59 PM

Thursday, May 11, 2017 3PM

Sorry, *universities* — was just kind of typing fast there. May 11, 2017 03:00 PM
Council ponders how to pay for golf (via @JoClifton78704 ) May 11, 2017 03:05 PM
Welllll still talking about this. Admins, 2 reps, Student government 1 rep currently on the table, open to different recommendations May 11, 2017 03:19 PM
Hello! That finally passed! May 11, 2017 03:20 PM
Item 22
On to Item 22 — rezoning at 1301 West Koenig (That old Honda dealership.) This is up for 2nd and 3rd reading. @LesliePoolATX moves approval May 11, 2017 03:21 PM
.@Alison_Alter has a TIA issue that “has nothing to do with passing this case.” Wants to know about Sunshine Market May 11, 2017 03:22 PM
Passes unanimously. Breaking for Executive session, coming back “as close to 4 as they can.” May 11, 2017 03:23 PM
We will follow suit. See you at 4ish. #atxcouncil May 11, 2017 03:23 PM
CX: Sorry, the TIA @Alison_Alter wanted to know more about concerned Sunshine Lane, not Sunshine Market. May 11, 2017 03:29 PM

Thursday, May 11, 2017 5PM

Council is back, y’all! May 11, 2017 05:07 PM
Item 25
On Item 25 — taking testimony now, but it will be postponed for a week, with a promise to take it up early in the agenda. May 11, 2017 05:09 PM
People can speak now, but trying not to get in the weeds. May 11, 2017 05:09 PM
One exception is Dan Becker, who is in from out-of-town, speaking in favor of the appellant, about why demo permits should not be issued. May 11, 2017 05:12 PM
Becker is running down the issues with the preservation staff report that cleared the way for the demo permit, and why homes are historic May 11, 2017 05:14 PM
Argues that historic preservation program concentrates on “big house on the hill” instead of vernacular styles like this. May 11, 2017 05:16 PM
Council approves the postponement. Adjourned! May 11, 2017 05:23 PM

Austin City Council: The Austin City Council is the body with legislative purview over the City of Austin. It offers policy direction, while the office of the City Manager implements administrative actions based on those policies. Until 2012, the body contained seven members, including the city's Mayor, all elected at-large. In 2012, City of Austin residents voted to change that system and now 10 members of the Council are elected based on geographic districts. The Mayor continues to be elected at-large.
